Our Walking Holidays In The Alps – France, Italy, Austria & Switzerland
All my walking holidays in the Alps are based upon personal experience. I have been guiding as an International Mountain Leader (IML), in the European Alps since 2010.
The Alps is a fantastic playground, stretching all the way from the French/Italian border to Slovenia, some 600 miles. Between the months of June and September the weather is generally mild and sunny, the snow has moved back above 3,000 metres and there are countless opportunities to walk high alpine trails and cross passes from one country to another. As well as breath-taking views of glaciers and summits you are also likely to catch sight of Marmots, Deer, Ibex and maybe see an Eagle or Lammergeier!
Many of my journeys include an overnight stay in a traditional mountain hut or refuge. Perched high above the valleys, between 1800 – 2500 metres, they are a fantastic place to relax after a days walk, where you can sit and watch the sun set, whilst the hut guardians are preparing a 3 course evening meal.
Each year, all the routes are re-checked prior to the start of the trekking season and our trip notes are updated. I also keep in touch with each of the accommodation venues provided to ensure that the high standards we expect for our customers, are maintained.
The walks in the Alps include the following diverse itineraries:
- The classic ‘Tour du Mont Blanc’ – the circular walk around Mont Blanc, at 4810 metres, the highest mountain in the European Alps. Now offered for both individuals to join a trip or for private groups.
- Freedom Trails – Two separate stories and journeys following in the footsteps of allied soldiers, who escaped from Italian prisoner-of-war camps in World War 2 and crossed the Alps to reach neutral Switzerland and freedom.
- Sentiero Bernina Sud – An Adventure! 6 days following this trail around glaciers, through boulder fields and along some balcony tracks on a semi-circular tour of one of Switzerland’s highest peaks, Bernina. At 4086 metres, Piz Bernina is the highest mountain in the Eastern Alps
- Chamonix Valle – Guided Walks with TMB Highlights – from our hotel base in Chamonix we offer 6 individual day excursions to key view points of the Chamonix Valle
Coming soon, January – March 2026
- Snowshoe treks in the Austrian Tyrol – Based in the high plateau village of Seefeld Alpine Walks offer a selection of week long snowshoe walking holidays, hotel based. A chance to really immerse yourself in Austrian Winter culture and journeys. Or how about a weekend getaway, if you cannot take a full week off. Our short breaks are ideal for giving you a glimpse of a snow covered wonderland!
“We totally trusted Duncan’s abilities and always felt safe with him. He always shared the map with everyone which put everyone at ease knowing that we were on course. He never made anyone feel rushed and made sure that everyone was well hydrated and doing well. Duncan’s friendly and easy going personality was the catalyst for our group (about 10 people) becoming close friends who shared many laughs and good times. We still have fond memories of that trip and still stay in touch with Duncan and some of the others in our group. We hope to do one of the ww2 historical hikes soon.“
